【EPAD】

かつてとても美しかった谷があった。若い恋人たちや旅行者の多くが訪れたその谷は、しかしいつの頃からか若い恋人たちが生まれたばかりの自分たちの赤ん坊を投げ捨てに来る場所となってしまった。それも日に20体、30体という赤ん坊の遺体が投げ捨てられるようになった。あるときふらりと現れてその谷に住まうようになった盲目の老女リントリク。彼女は雨の日も嵐の日もただ捨てられた赤ん坊を拾い埋葬し続けた。最初は彼女の存在を恐れた村人たちもいつしか彼女を畏れ敬うようになっていった。
ある夜、一人の若者がリントリクのもとに赤ん坊を抱えて訪ねてくる。その赤ん坊を若者は埋葬してくれとリントリクに願う。その後、その赤ん坊の母親である若い娘と、娘の父親である猟師が現れ...

ダナルトは、ジャワのケジャウェン（※ヒンズー、アニミズム、イスラムがミックスした民族宗教）の精神的な教えをルーツに持つ神秘主義的な作家である。shelfの矢野は、社会的、文化的、宗教的文脈や価値観のまったく異なるこの作家のテキストを丹念に翻訳するところから始め、他者理解の可能性と、生と死あるいはアジア文学における女性の描かれ方について、舞台制作を通じて探求を試みる。またこの作品は、東京－ジャカルタを結ぶ長期国際共同制作プロジェクト「交差／横断するテキスト：ミステリーとミスティカルのあいだで」の第一弾として計画された。クリエイションパートナーであるLab Teater Ciputatのバンバン・プリハジは今回、shelfがダナルトの『Rintrik』に挑むのと同じく、三島由紀夫の『卒塔婆小町』を舞台化する。

Director's note：

"Asked to be treated not as a wife, or a woman or a mother or a daughter but simply as a person, but having been betrayed, Nora left home and gave up everything."Now, through reexamining this text, the work presents the simple yet unanswerable question of the modern "ego". In other words, the question of "what am I?" This performance is an international collaboration with theater artists from Japan and Korea. As well as tackling the problem of the modern "ego", we wanted to verify our perception of European culture, as seen not only from Japan, but also from East Asia.

「政治」というものについて考えたい。政治といっても政府や政治家の話ではなく、人と人とが二人以上集まった場に必ず発生する政治的なふるまいや、言葉の力、特に発語という行為について考えたいと思う。

取り扱うテキストは、太宰治の小説、武者小路実篤のエッセー、日本国憲法前文や、 第一次大戦に従軍して戦死したイギリス詩人の詩、等。

それらを用いながら、人間の主体について、 即ち「私」、「私たち」、「国民」、「国家」、そしてそも「人間」とは何であるか？　について考察し、人間のその発語行為の為される現場を捉え、私たちの生きるこの閉塞した世界を穿ちたい。

Director’s note:

The theme of the play Hedda Gabler lies in the boringness she feels about her life and can do nothing about. People want their lives to be as dramatic and satisfying as possible, and even picture irreplaceable versions of their selves. That kind of desire itself might be a flaw that modern self-awareness and modern humanism contain. (And would it be an overstatement to say that this has become a kind of system that suppresses people and plunges them into madness in this modern society?) Based on the concept explained above, we would like to think of solutions to survive in this difficult time, by showing the audience the broken reality and how we try to fix it.

Director's note:

Ibsen's era is the era in which the idea of the "inner self" or "ego" of human beings was invented. In other words, this idea of a "modern human perspective" was still valid. While working with Ibsen's "drama" which has such a strong, traditional, and "dramatic" structure, I want to describe what will become of the inner self of the broken down human beings of today.
By putting other characters who are not in the "drama" onstage, and making the play's original characters interact with these "others" at different distances represents the different perspectives of our current era. (As a side note, two actors who are not actual characters in "ghost" are starring in this production.) Through these onstage interactions with "others" be a possible means of rediscovering the essence of Ibsen's "drama", which is now in ruins due to the breaking down of the human ego?
The key to this piece is a sense of distance between actors and the text. If possible, through approaching the text from a variety of spatial ranges, our performance might be very successful.
This work will be an attempt to prove that the real world is broken, and I think this work's goal will be to describe exactly how the real world is broken.
